ZXMOTO MX250
ZXMOTO MX250 Lightweight, Race-Ready Off-Road Performance
The ZXMOTO MX250 is built for riders who want a lightweight, responsive and genuinely capable off-road motorcycle. Combining a high-revving 249cc DOHC single-cylinder engine with premium KYB suspension, race-focused engine internals and a 102kg kerb weight, the MX250 is designed to deliver sharp control and strong performance across demanding terrain.
Unlike entry-level trail bikes, the MX250 has been engineered with serious off-road riding in mind. ZXMOTO has concentrated on reducing weight, increasing engine responsiveness and giving riders the suspension travel and adjustability needed for rough tracks, jumps, ruts and technical sections.
Available from Biking Direct with motorcycle finance options and nationwide UK delivery, the ZXMOTO MX250 offers an exciting new option for riders looking for a modern 250cc-class off-road bike with premium components and competitive performance.
249cc DOHC High-Compression Engine
At the heart of the ZXMOTO MX250 is a 249cc single-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve, 4-stroke engine.
Maximum output is 30kW at 12,500rpm, equivalent to approximately 40.2bhp, while peak torque of 27Nm arrives at 9,500rpm.
The engine uses a very high 13.9:1 compression ratio, helping maximise performance and combustion efficiency. That high-compression setup, combined with the lightweight chassis, gives the MX250 the sharp throttle response and energetic character riders expect from a serious off-road machine.
ZXMOTO quotes a class-leading power-to-weight ratio of around 1.14, helping the MX250 feel lively and responsive without carrying unnecessary mass.
BOSCH Dual-Injector EFI
Fuel delivery is handled by a BOSCH electronic fuel injection system with dual injectors.
Using two injectors allows the engine management system to optimise fuel delivery across different engine speeds and throttle openings, helping provide smooth low-speed response while maintaining strong fuelling at higher rpm.
For the rider, the benefit is more consistent throttle response across the rev range, improved starting and more precise power delivery when riding on loose or technical terrain.
Titanium Valves & DLC-Coated Components
The MX250 engine incorporates performance materials normally associated with high-end competition motorcycles.
Titanium valves reduce reciprocating mass within the valvetrain, allowing the engine to rev more freely while maintaining durability at high engine speeds.
ZXMOTO also uses DLC-coated valvetrain components. DLC Diamond-Like Carbon is an extremely hard, low-friction coating used to reduce wear and mechanical losses.
Combined with the engine’s forged lightweight piston, these features help reduce inertia and internal friction, contributing to sharper throttle response and stronger high-rpm performance.
Forged Lightweight Piston
A forged lightweight piston is another important part of the MX250’s performance package.
Forging produces a strong component capable of handling the heat and pressure generated by a high-compression engine, while reduced piston mass helps the motor respond more quickly to throttle input.
This matters particularly off-road, where riders constantly modulate the throttle to maintain traction, clear obstacles and control the motorcycle through changing terrain.
Refined Cooling System
ZXMOTO has also focused on reducing power loss through improved cooling and engine efficiency.
Off-road motorcycles often operate at relatively low road speeds while the engine is working hard, so effective cooling is essential. A well-managed cooling system helps maintain consistent performance and protects engine components during sustained use.
Wet Multi-Plate Hydraulic Slipper Clutch
The MX250 uses a wet multi-plate hydraulic slipper clutch.
Hydraulic clutch operation provides consistent lever feel, while the slipper function helps reduce excessive engine braking during aggressive downshifts.
That can improve rear-wheel stability when entering corners, especially on loose surfaces where sudden engine braking could otherwise disturb traction.
102kg Kerb Weight
One of the most impressive figures in the MX250 specification is its 102kg kerb weight.
Low weight is enormously important off-road. A lighter bike is easier to change direction, easier to recover from mistakes, less tiring to ride and more manageable when navigating tight technical sections.
The MX250’s weight-saving measures extend throughout the chassis, including aluminium components and lightweight wheel hardware.
KYB 48mm Fully Adjustable Front Suspension
Suspension is one of the strongest parts of the MX250 specification.
At the front is a premium KYB dual-chamber inverted fork with large 48mm tapered fork tubes and an impressive 305mm of suspension travel.
The fork is fully adjustable, giving riders the ability to fine-tune damping to match their weight, riding style and terrain.
That level of adjustment is particularly valuable for riders moving between softer trail riding, rough motocross-style terrain and faster open sections.
302mm Fully Adjustable KYB Rear Suspension
The rear suspension is equally serious.
The MX250 uses a KYB rear shock with external reservoir, described by ZXMOTO as fully adjustable, with approximately 302mm of rear travel.
The external reservoir helps manage heat and damping consistency during prolonged hard riding, while the large amount of travel allows the rear wheel to follow rough terrain without transferring excessive impact to the rider.
Combined with the 305mm front fork, this gives the MX250 a very balanced suspension package.
Aluminium Swingarm & Premium 7075 Rims
At the rear, the MX250 uses a lightweight aluminium swingarm.
ZXMOTO also specifies premium 7075 aluminium wheel rims. 7075 alloy is widely valued for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, making it well suited to demanding off-road use.
Reducing unsprung weight helps suspension respond more effectively, while the strong rims are designed to cope with repeated impacts from rough terrain.
Lightweight Aluminium Wheel Axle
The MX250 also uses an aluminium-alloy wheel axle.
It’s a relatively small component, but reducing weight throughout the chassis contributes to the bike’s impressive 102kg kerb weight.
The aluminium construction also provides good corrosion resistance for long-term durability.
21-Inch Front & 19-Inch Rear Wheels
The MX250 runs the traditional off-road wheel combination of a 21-inch front wheel and 19-inch rear wheel.
The front tyre measures 80/100-21, while the rear uses a 100/90-19.
A large 21-inch front wheel helps the motorcycle roll over ruts, rocks and obstacles more easily, while the 19-inch rear provides the traction and agility expected from a competition-oriented off-road machine.
Monobloc Disc Brakes
Braking is handled by single hydraulic discs front and rear.
The front uses a two-piston monobloc caliper, while the rear uses a single-piston monobloc unit.
Monobloc construction creates a rigid brake caliper body, helping maintain consistent braking feel and control under repeated hard use.
Ergonomic Narrow Seat
ZXMOTO has designed the MX250 with a narrow ergonomic seat to improve rider movement and control.
Off-road riders frequently shift their weight forwards, backwards and from side to side. A narrow seat and slim chassis make that easier, helping riders grip the motorcycle with their legs and change body position quickly.
The official seat height is 960mm, reflecting the long suspension travel and full-size off-road geometry.
Carbon Fibre Exhaust Guard
The exhaust is protected by a lightweight carbon-fibre exhaust guard.
The guard provides additional heat protection while helping shield the exhaust from minor impacts and contact during demanding off-road use.
Carbon fibre keeps the component strong without adding unnecessary weight.
6.5-Litre Rotomoulded Fuel Tank
The MX250 uses a 6.5-litre rotomoulded fuel tank.
Rotomoulded tanks are valued for their durability and impact resistance, making them particularly suitable for off-road motorcycles where the fuel tank can experience more movement, vibration and occasional impacts than on a road bike.
Twin-Spar Frame
The chassis is built around a twin-spar frame.
This type of frame layout is commonly used on performance off-road motorcycles because it can provide the rigidity and feedback riders need when riding aggressively.
The MX250 uses a 1,485mm wheelbase, 28-degree rake and 42-degree steering angle, helping create stable yet responsive handling.
Built for Serious Off-Road Riding
The ZXMOTO MX250 is clearly designed as a genuine off-road performance motorcycle rather than a road bike wearing knobbly tyres.
Its 102kg kerb weight, 30kW engine, premium KYB suspension, titanium valves, DLC-coated valvetrain components, hydraulic slipper clutch and lightweight aluminium components all point towards a motorcycle intended to be ridden hard.
For riders progressing from a smaller trail bike or looking for a modern 250cc-class motocross-style machine, the MX250 offers a very impressive specification.
