SURRON Light Bee 2 X – The Next Generation of the Light Bee

The bike that helped define lightweight electric off-road riding has evolved.

The SURRON Light Bee 2 X is a ground-up new generation of the Light Bee concept, combining dramatically increased performance with sophisticated electronic rider assistance, a new semi-solid-state battery, long-travel suspension and a completely redesigned lightweight chassis.

Maximum power rises to an extraordinary 24kW, accompanied by 410Nm of maximum wheel torque. Yet the complete Light Bee 2 X weighs just 65kg.

The result is an exceptional power-to-weight package capable of accelerating from 0–31mph (0–50km/h) in just 1.8 seconds and from 0–50mph (0–80km/h) in 3.43 seconds, with a maximum speed of approximately 56mph (90km/h).

But outright performance is only part of the story. SURRON has surrounded that performance with an entirely new generation of intelligent control technology including traction control, two-level Wheelie Control, seven riding modes, adjustable throttle response, regenerative braking, Auto Hold, cruise control and smartphone connectivity.

This is not simply a faster Light Bee. The Light Bee 2 X represents a major technological step forward for SURRON’s most famous platform.

24kW Maximum Power

At the heart of the Light Bee 2 X is a high-output Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) working with SURRON’s advanced MTPA/MTPV FOC controller.

The system develops up to 24kW maximum power and an enormous 410Nm of torque at the wheel.

Power delivery is managed electronically to combine immediate electric response with controllability, while a three-level adjustable throttle response allows riders to tailor the way the bike reacts to throttle input.

0–31mph in 1.8 Seconds

The combination of huge electric torque and a 65kg kerb weight produces remarkable acceleration.

78.54V Semi-Solid-State Battery

A major part of the Light Bee 2’s transformation is its new 78.54V 45Ah semi-solid-state battery.

The pack provides 3.53kWh of energy capacity and combines increased performance with substantial riding range.

Official rated range figures are:

• 99 miles / 160km at 15.5mph (25km/h)
• 67 miles / 108km at 24.9mph (40km/h)

As with any electric motorcycle, actual riding range will vary according to rider weight, terrain, speed, riding mode, temperature, gradients and riding style.

Fast Charging

The Light Bee 2 X supports significantly more practical charging for riders who want to spend more time riding and less time waiting.

• 20–80%: approximately 2 hours
• 0–100%: approximately 4 hours

Seven Riding Modes

Rather than giving the rider only a basic choice between economy and performance settings, the Light Bee 2 X features seven riding modes:

E / D / S / M / T / R / L

These provide a far wider range of riding characteristics, including the fully configurable M Custom Mode, allowing the Light Bee 2 to adapt much more closely to different riders, terrain and situations.

M Custom Mode

M Custom Mode brings a new level of personalisation to the Light Bee platform.

Rather than accepting one fixed factory performance map, riders can customise the bike’s power characteristics through its connected electronic system, creating a setup that better matches their riding style and terrain.

SURRON Wheelie Control – SWC

With 24kW available in such a lightweight motorcycle, controlling front-wheel lift becomes particularly important.

The Light Bee 2 X therefore introduces two-level SURRON Wheelie Control (SWC).

An IMU monitors the motorcycle’s pitch angle in real time and coordinates motor output within milliseconds. Two selectable assistance levels allow the amount of intervention to be matched to rider experience and conditions.

The system doesn’t simply remove performance; it helps make that performance more manageable and repeatable.

SURRON Traction Control – SRTC

SURRON Traction Control (SRTC) adds another layer of electronic control to the Light Bee 2 X.

On loose or changing surfaces, traction control can help manage the enormous instant torque available from the electric powertrain, giving the rider greater confidence when accelerating.

Advanced Regenerative Braking

The Light Bee 2 X provides unusually comprehensive control over regenerative braking.

Riders can choose between five levels of coasting energy recovery and five levels of braking energy recovery, allowing the amount of regenerative deceleration to be tailored to terrain and personal preference.

A dedicated RBS regenerative brake trigger also allows regenerative braking to be called upon directly, helping manage speed while returning recovered energy to the battery.

SURRON VISION Full-Colour TFT Display

The new SURRON VISION smart display replaces the simpler instrumentation traditionally associated with lightweight electric dirt bikes with a modern full-colour TFT display.

The display works alongside the Light Bee 2’s expanded electronics and connected features, giving the rider a significantly more sophisticated interface with the motorcycle.

SURRON App Connectivity

Integrated T-Box connectivity connects the Light Bee 2 X with the SURRON smartphone app.

Supported functions include:

• Vehicle location
• Vehicle diagnostics
• Riding-mode customisation
• OTA system updates

This means the motorcycle’s digital systems can continue to evolve without relying entirely on traditional workshop-based software updates.

Cruise Control and Auto Hold

The Light Bee 2 X also includes features rarely associated with lightweight electric dirt bikes.

Cruise control is available above 10km/h, while Auto Hold can help keep the motorcycle stationary when required.

Additional electronic protection includes brake-priority/override protection, tilt protection, side-stand protection and electrical high/low-temperature and high/low-voltage protection.

One-Piece Forged Aluminium-Alloy Frame

Handling all this additional performance is a new one-piece forged aluminium-alloy frame.

The structure has been engineered to combine high rigidity with controlled flex while keeping weight extremely low. A compact, centralised layout contributes to predictable handling and preserves the agility that made the original Light Bee concept so successful.

Despite the huge increase in performance and technology, the Light Bee 2 X has a kerb weight of only 65kg.

Long-Travel Off-Road Suspension

The Light Bee 2 X receives a substantial suspension package designed for increasingly demanding riding.

The front fork provides 215mm of travel, while the rear suspension uses an 85mm shock to produce 220mm of rear-wheel travel.

The launch specification also identifies a new 38mm uprated front suspension system with Kashima coating, SKF oil seals and dual-chamber damping with bottom-out protection.

The result is significantly greater capacity for hard landings, broken terrain, ruts and fast off-road riding.

Upgraded Four-Piston Braking

The braking system has also been upgraded to match the Light Bee 2’s dramatically increased performance.

Front and rear braking uses one-piece opposed enlarged four-piston calipers with 203mm brake discs.

Combined with adjustable regenerative braking and the dedicated RBS control, riders now have both powerful conventional braking and sophisticated electronic deceleration control available.

19/18-Inch Off-Road Wheel Set

The Light Bee 2 X uses a 19-inch front and 18-inch rear wheel combination fitted with dedicated off-road tyres.

The wheel set is complemented by primary gear transmission and a durable 520-90 O-ring secondary drive chain.

3,100-Lumen LED Headlight

Night-time visibility receives a substantial upgrade with an ultra-wide-angle 3,100-lumen LED headlight on the Light Bee 2 X.

It is another indication of how far the specification has moved beyond the original lightweight electric dirt-bike formula.

Light Bee 2 X or Light Bee 2 L3?

There are two versions of the new-generation Light Bee 2.

The Light Bee 2 X shown here is the dedicated off-road version. It weighs 65kg and features the more powerful 3,100-lumen off-road headlight.

The Light Bee 2 L3 is the road-equipped version. It adds mirrors, indicators, road lighting and rear registration equipment, increasing kerb weight to 68kg. The L3 uses a 2,100-lumen headlight.

If you intend to use your Light Bee on public roads, choose the appropriate road-legal model rather than the off-road Light Bee 2 X.

In order to maintain the warranty, vehicles are required to be serviced at the correct intervals. Failure to do so will render the warranty void. It is highly recommend that the user has the vehicle maintained to ensure increased safety & vehicle longevity. It is possible to buy service kits here if you prefer to maintain your vehicle yourself however your warranty will become void unless a VAT registered garage carries out each service and validates this by filling in the service book accordingly.
